virtual performers:
Homo Domesticus #1: Alexandra Meijer
Homo Domesticus #2: Toon Van Ishoven

Homo Domesticus is an interactive environment. The visitor enters a room in which the floor has been hightened by use of wooden transportation pallets. There are two vertical videoprojections into holes that have been sawn out of the wooden floor. A console enables the visitor to choose from a limited set of actions carried out by a virtual performer, a scaled-down human actor, the so-called "Homo Domesticus" ("Sit/Lie/Sleep/Eat/Crawl/Burn").
The Homo Domesticus is a virtual human species, "condemned" to a domestic existence within a wooden cardboard space of less then 1 square meter.
The installation was recently created in a first version in the gallery space of Fst Forward in Antwerp (Sep-Oct 2003), and subsequently in a different version at the Moving Arts Festival in Tilburg, The Netherlands.

As with other video-installations by the artist, the final form of the installation is variable as it is highly determined by the architecture of the space in which it is presented.
