'Vena'

video-sound installation

creation: October 2000

Vena consists of a videoprojection and a polystyrene projection surface with a loudspeaker underneath. The surface is mounted just above the ground and shaped into the form of a man's back. From above a video-animation shows a man's back over which a black line slowly runs down and divides itself intoa line structure similar of the nervestructure of a treeleaf. Simultaniously a breathing sound is audible. Subsequently, the linestructure sinks into the back.

'Vena' is latin for 'veign'. It deals with the theme of the connectivity between man and nature and is the third work, after 'i am a channel' and 'walk on' , in which Toon Van Ishoven uses the dimensions of his own body to convey meaning and awaken universal but hidden knowledge in the viewer.
