7 fotoprints on stiffened cotton, mechanical dimmers, electric threads

This installation consists of 7 images of human individuals, interconnected by electric threads. Each element shows a face with closed eyes. A small light underneath, controlled by a mechanical dimmer, gradually reveals the individual's open eyes. The self-fabricated dimmers produce a mechanical humming sound that one can associate with a person snoaring in his sleep.
''I started with the idea of a kind of memorial object for living people - instead of dead one's; but not to remember anything special about them; i'm more interested in working with the notions of 'individual', 'interconnectivity', 'living' and in creating something that evokes some sort of life in itself, something that has a living presence which can be felt by the viewer." (tvi, March 2002)

The installation was presented as part of the environment 'lost self' in Galerie Annette De Keyser in Antwerp (Jan-March 2002).
